Video Conference with Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka, Malaysia

at 13:00 - 14:10, April 22, 2004
(12:00 - 13:10 in Malaysia)

Participants : Class 1-6 (40 studetns) (Japanese) (Web page of Malaysia)

One of teacher at Kolej Yayasan Saad in Malaysia got our school information on internet and contacted us to have a Video Conference via e-mail. She hoped she make her students do it which can communicate with seeing each other face on real time and understand another culture of same age.

At 12:45 in Lunch break, When we logged on the Video conference room, It appeared the scene of Malaysia on the screen and we saw them preparing and setting. After several minutes, our students came in and they looked into PC screen with waving hands or doing something. At 12:55, we started a connection test and we unfortunately found out Voice from Malaysia not to come in. Both of us checked each equipment setting and restart PC several times, After 35 minutes later we finally started the Video Conference. But System sometime frozen and Voice from Malaysia was sometime cut and we had to wait for several minutes to start again. Having problem, both students made their efforts to do their introduction, questions and answer, performance and so on. They really did good job. It was too bad to come up the time to end, they promised to see again and said good-bye.

We did the conference as the following:

(1) Greeting (Principal of our school, teachers of both schools, student of Malaysia)

(2) Students' Talk (introduction, questions & answer, performance and so on)

Questions
1) What do you do for fun? (sports, hobbies, other recreation)
2) Where do you live?
3) Do you like Japan (Malaysia)?

(3) End (No wave hands because of no time)

Thinking the Problem for next time:
It was the Big Problem not to hear their voice sometimes during this video conference (V/C) because of having several test session. They said that it is very typical one on V/C. But we could not expect it before. We can guess that the cause of problem is busy on line (busy time), equipment setting, conference system and so on. Especially Both of us in this time are connected with optical fiber to internet, so we need to solve it soon.
Next one is to proceed on V/C, Our students are just fresh man and they tried this at only second time for computer class.  So they did not calculate the time of each group and so some groups were not able to participate in. We are sorry to do that. Of course we know the Problem made it. We are decided that Master of ceremonies person (M/C) is needed on the both side next time. M/C will make it go well.
